Mission & History

“Education is all a matter of building bridges.” Ralph Ellison

We have been building bridges between China and the U.S. for the past 27 years.

Our story began in the 1980s when, in the wake of Deng Xiaoping’s new ‘Open Door Policy’, Suzanne Fox was among the first wave of American exchange students to travel to China. After living and working in Beijing and Shanghai in the 1980s and ‘90s, Suzanne’s career then took her to New York where she pioneered East Asia programs for the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). She taught East Asian History at De Anza College in California and cross-cultural communications at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine—and in 2000, founded Fox Intercultural Consulting.

Over the past 12 years, we have worked extensively with schools, educational institutions and businesses throughout New England in helping them to develop genuine and long-lasting connections with China. In 2010, Suzanne was awarded a NEXT Award for her pioneering work in forging Maine-China ties.
