Summer ESL & Arts Program, MECA

This intensive course at Maine College of Art will help you dramatically improve your English language skills while you enjoy one of America’s most talked about up-and-coming arts cities, just two hours north of Boston. Enjoy intensive English conversation and writing classes, receive one-on-one arts mentorship from a faculty of artists, hang out in art galleries, and live in college dorms in the heart of Portland, Maine.

  • Daily, intensive ESL classes
  • Additional language & culture classes focusing on the American art & cultural scene
  • Structured studio time with a mentor from the Portland arts community—to develop a personal art project 
  • Majors available: Ceramics, Graphic Design, Illustration, Metalsmithing & Jewelry, New Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Textile & Fashion Design, Woodworking & Furniture Design 
  • College credit + Access to the acclaimed MFA Summer Visiting Artist Lecture Series 
  • Weekend homestay opportunities 
  • Afternoons spent creating art in the MECA campus or visiting scenic places on the famous Maine seacoast, blissful islands, artist colonies, etc. 
  • Day trips to Boston, Mohegan Island, studio tours, First Friday Art Walk 
  • Also functions as a preparatory course for MECA’s BFA program (if students reach the necessary TOEFL score)

The cost of this program is US$5,200, room and board included.
